The GVTC Foundation recently partnered with the Comal County Friends of the Night Sky, a local 501c3 non-profit organization working to educate Comal County residents on preservation of the Texas Hill Country. Formed in 2020, the group provides initiatives to facilitate night sky friendly lighting to improve the night sky and has established programs created to share the importance of reducing and reversing light pollution caused by homes and business exterior lighting. The Comal County Commissioners Court has proclaimed October 2022 as Hill Country Night Sky Month in Comal County!
At the October 13, 2022 meeting of the Comal County Commissioners Court, the Court proclaimed October 2022 as Hill Country Night Sky Month in Comal County. The county urges citizens to participate in the Comal County and Hill Country regional events and programs celebrating the night sky and promoting the ways in which communities are working to preserve it. The Texas Hill Country’s natural beauty is one of the reasons PEC’s service territory has seen unprecedented growth in recent years. This rapid growth comes with the potential to diminish the darkness of our skies at night. However, PEC have taken steps to preserve this natural resource, and help save energy in the process.
